| Obverse description | Printed in brown and tan on cream paper, this Notgeld schein is divided into two main zones: at left, a tall vertical panel bears the Gothic-script legend 'Notgeld-Schein' above an elaborate heraldic vignette comprising the combined arms of the five issuing districts set within an ornate cartouche, below which the series letter 'A' and red serial number appear. The broad right field carries a dense geometric guilloche underprint overlaid with the district names in a vertical border arrangement, above the issuing authority text in Gothic blackletter, the denomination 'Einhundert Tausend Mark' in large script over the numeral '100 000', the issue date 'Den 28. August 1923', the authorising legend 'Die Vorsitzenden der Bezirksräte:', and five facsimile signatures of the district council chairmen. A fine disclaimer clause in small type runs along the lower margin. |

This is a Notgeld issue — emergency currency put into circulation by a coalition of five Württemberg district administrations (Oberndorf, Rottweil, Spaichingen, Sulz, and Tuttlingen) during the hyperinflationary collapse of 1923. The joint-issuer arrangement was practical: individual smaller Ämter lacked the authority and infrastructure to produce adequate quantities alone, so neighboring districts pooled their authorization. The 100,000 Mark denomination, astronomical by prewar standards, was already losing purchasing power within days of printing.
