Reverse description The right portion of the facade of Palazzo Koch, the historic headquarters of the Bank of Italy in Rome, is rendered in detailed architectural relief occupying the right side of the field. To the left, the denomination L.100 MILA is prominently inscribed alongside the Rome mintmark R. Below the architectural motif, the centenary dates 1893-1993 are displayed, commemorating the centennial of the Bank of Italy, together with the engraver's name DRIUTTI. The legend BANCA D'ITALIA arcs across the upper portion of the reverse.

Additional information

This issue belongs to a commemorative gold series the Banca d'Italia produced through the 1990s, each piece tied to a specific cultural or institutional theme rather than circulation. By 1993, Italy was deep in the Tangentopoli crisis — the nationwide corruption investigations that would dissolve the First Republic and eliminate most of the established political parties within two years. Whether intentional or not, minting prestige gold coinage while the political establishment collapsed around it says something about institutional continuity.
