Republika Srpska established its own central bank and currency during the Bosnian War, operating largely as an economic satellite of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia — the Serbian dinar circulated alongside Republika Srpska issues, and the two currencies were effectively interchangeable at par. This note was printed by ZIN in Belgrade, the same facility producing Yugoslav federal issues, which made the political relationship between the two entities visible in the paper itself.
The 100,000 denomination reflects hyperinflation that had already consumed several lower face values in rapid succession. By the end of 1993, Yugoslav and related currencies had entered one of the most severe hyperinflationary episodes ever recorded.
