Württemberg's state peat administration — a government body managing bog extraction — became an unlikely emergency currency issuer during the hyperinflation peak of 1923. Notgeld authority was extended broadly that year, and any institution with payroll obligations and access to a printer could qualify. The Vereinigte Buchdruckereien was a regional print cooperative serving the towns of Buchau, Schussenried, and Aulendorf, which explains the hyphenated credit line.
By the time a 100-million-mark denomination was necessary to pay peat workers, the Rentenmark introduction was already weeks away.
