Beuel was a small industrial town on the right bank of the Rhine, directly across from Bonn, and in August–September 1923 its municipal government was doing what hundreds of German municipalities were forced to do: issuing its own emergency currency because Reichsbank notes were arriving too slowly to keep pace with hyperinflation accelerating by the day. At the peak, the Reichsbank was authorizing local notgeld issuers by the dozen weekly.

The Rhenania-Druckerei in Bonn printed for multiple Rhineland issuers simultaneously during this period, which accounts for the broadly similar production quality seen across notgeld from this region. Beuel was incorporated into Bonn in 1969 and no longer exists as a separate municipality.
