| Opmerkingen |
Hardenberg-Neviges was a small industrial town in the Bergisches Land, and its municipal savings bank — the Städtische Sparkasse — was among hundreds of local German institutions forced to issue their own emergency currency in 1923 as Reichsbank notes became worthless faster than Berlin could print replacements. At the hundred-million-mark denomination, this note was already obsolete within days of issue; by November 1923, a single US dollar exchanged for over four trillion marks.
L. Syring was a local printer, not a specialist security firm. The technical limitations of such a press show in surviving examples.
