By mid-1993, Bosnia-Herzegovina was in the grip of wartime hyperinflation so severe that the National Bank was forced to issue denominations that would have been unthinkable two years earlier. This 100,000,000 dinar note is part of a frantic series of emergency emissions produced as the Sarajevo government struggled to maintain any functional monetary system under siege conditions and an active blockade.
The denomination itself tells the story. Within months of this note's issue, it was effectively worthless — the inflation rate peaked at figures that made even nine-digit banknotes inadequate for daily transactions.
