The lower portion carries the issuing authority 'Reichsverkehrsministerium, Zweigstelle Bayern.' along with the place and date 'München, am 26. Oktober 1923.' and a manuscript signature; a detachable coupon at right bears the numeral denomination '100 Milliarden' in large blackletter type, the serial number in red, and a counterfoil warning text against forgery. |

One of hundreds of notgeld types issued by German railway and transport authorities during the hyperinflation of autumn 1923, this note reflects the structural absurdity of that period: a federal ministry branch issuing its own emergency currency denominated in hundred-billion marks, simply to pay workers and cover day-to-day operational costs when Reichsbank notes arrived too slowly to keep pace with price increases.
Meindl's München-Pasing printworks were typical of the smaller regional firms pressed into emergency currency production that year — not specialist security printers, but whatever facility could turn paper around quickly.
