The Badische Bank was one of several private regional note-issuing banks in Germany still operating under concession when the hyperinflation of 1923 rendered denominations meaningless almost daily. By the time hundred-billion Mark notes were necessary, the Reichsbank and its affiliate issuers were printing on one side only and skipping serial numbering on many runs simply to keep pace with demand — the administrative overhead of full production had become a luxury.
Mannheim-printed issues from the Badische Bank in this period are distinguishable from Reichsbank emergency issues by their regional authorization text, though both were legally valid across Germany under the inflationary framework. The stabilization of November 1923 — when the Rentenmark replaced the old Mark at one trillion to one — rendered this note worthless within weeks of issue.
