| Obverse description | Cream-toned note printed in dark brown on a guilloche underprint of repeating circular dot patterns. The denomination "Hundert Milliarden Mk" is rendered in large Gothic blackletter script occupying the left and central portion of the face, with a large watermark-style numeral "100" visible through the underprint. A vertical panel at right carries the numeral "100 Milliarden" within a decorative lozenge frame. The issuer title "STADT ESSEN" is set in spaced capitals at the top, with the series letter and serial number at upper right, followed by a payment clause dated Essen, 25.
