正面描述 Printed on thin smooth white paper in dark green ink with black text, this Notgeld voucher (Gutschein) carries the issuing authority's name at top, the denomination in large Gothic blackletter script, the issue date of 26 October 1923, and two manuscript signatures below the respective titles of First and Second Bürgermeister. A three-digit serial number in black raster print appears on the note, which has been cancelled by two circular punch-hole perforations at upper left and right.

备注

Berchtesgaden's municipal administration issued this note at the absolute peak of the Weimar hyperinflation — a hundred billion marks, a denomination that would have been unthinkable eighteen months earlier. By late 1923, German towns, cities, and businesses were printing their own emergency currency (Notgeld) because the Reichsbank simply could not produce notes fast enough to meet demand. Municipalities became de facto issuers by necessity, not ambition.

The watermarked paper is notable for a local issue of this type — most provincial Notgeld at this denomination was printed on whatever stock was available.
