Reverse description The reverse depicts a stylized full-length figure of a performing artist — interpreted as a dancer or performer — shown in an animated dance gesture with one arm extended toward the background representation of a building, evoking an invitation to cultural engagement. The figure's costume is adorned with ornamental motifs drawn from the official graphic identification system of Wrocław's designation as European Capital of Culture 2016. The legend WROCŁAW 2016 and the inscription Europejska Stolica Kultury appear within the field, accompanied by the decorative letter W associated with the Capital of Culture branding.

Additional information

Wrocław held the European Capital of Culture designation in 2016 jointly with Donostia-San Sebastián and Pafos — an unusual three-city arrangement that year. The city's selection was partly a statement of post-communist cultural recovery; Wrocław had been systematically depopulated of its German-speaking inhabitants after 1945 and repopulated with Poles expelled from Lwów and other eastern territories ceded to the Soviet Union.

Mennica Polska issued this piece as part of its ongoing regional commemorative program. Mintage for the series typically runs in the low thousands.
