| Aversbeschreibung | A stylized Polish state eagle with spread wings occupies the central field, rendered in a modernist socialist realist style without a crown, as befitting the People's Republic. The circular legend surrounding the eagle reads 'POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA' separated by raised dots, with the date '1960' positioned at the base of the design. The eagle faces to the right and features detailed feather relief typical of the engraver Kazimierz Zieliński's work. |

| Reversbeschreibung | The reverse presents a bold modernist industrial composition featuring a large denomination numeral '10' accompanied by the abbreviation 'ZŁ' in the upper field, below which a stylized lathe cutting tool is depicted resting upon a large cog or gear wheel, symbolizing socialist industrial production. The word 'PRÓBA' (meaning trial or pattern) appears in small lettering to the left of the central design. The overall composition is rendered in high relief against a smooth field, reflecting the graphic design aesthetic of postwar Polish coinage patterns. |

This is a pattern piece from the wave of trial strikes Poland produced in the late 1950s and early 1960s as the National Bank tested denominations and compositions for a planned coinage reform. The "key and gears" motif was one of several industrial-themed designs evaluated during this period, reflecting the aesthetic priorities of the Polish People's Republic — heavy industry as national identity. Most of these trials never advanced to circulation approval.
Nickel trials from this program are considerably scarcer than their aluminum or aluminum-bronze counterparts. The Fischer and ParM references confirm this specific variant's documentation, but surviving population figures remain poorly established.
