Issued under Russian imperial administration following the Congress of Vienna, this piece belongs to the so-called "Congress Kingdom" coinage — a politically awkward series that acknowledged Polish autonomy in name while tethering the zloty directly to the Russian ruble at a fixed ratio. The 10 Zlotych was equivalent to 1½ rubles, a conversion that satisfied neither Polish merchants nor Russian financial planners.
The Warsaw Mint resumed operations under Russian oversight in 1816, staffed largely by Polish craftsmen who had worked under the Duchy of Warsaw. That institutional continuity shows in the die work of the 1827 issue.
