Nowa Huta and Turoszów were twin symbols of Stalinist industrial ambition in postwar Poland — a steel town built from scratch outside Kraków and a massive lignite mining complex in Lower Silesia. The 1964 trial strikes pairing these two sites on a single coin reflect a planned commemorative program that never reached circulation, almost certainly shelved as the political mood around overt socialist-industrial glorification began cooling in the mid-1960s under Gomułka.
Trial pieces from this program survive in small numbers across multiple metal variants, making cross-reference between Fischer and Parchimowicz essential for attribution.
