Reverse description A detailed portrait bust of the astronomer Mikołaj Kopernik (Nicolaus Copernicus) facing slightly to the left dominates the field, rendered in high relief with careful attention to facial features and period clothing including a ruffled collar. Stylized wheat or laurel branches flank the upper field on either side of the portrait. The legend MIKOŁAJ KOPERNIK arches around the upper portion of the coin, split to either side of the bust, with the engraver's initials JG visible in the lower right field.
