Reverse description The reverse presents a three-quarter facing portrait bust of the astronomer Mikołaj Kopernik (Nicolaus Copernicus), rendered in high relief in a Renaissance style consistent with historical depictions of the scholar. Two bold diagonal cancellation lines cross the entire surface in an X pattern, marking this as a canceled die piece. The legend MIKOŁAJ KOPERNIK is inscribed in large letters arcing across the upper portion of the field, divided by the crossed lines. The engraver's initials JG, for Józef Gosławski, appear discreetly in the lower field.
