Additional information

The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity — Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy, universally known in Poland by its acronym WOŚP — was founded by television personality Jerzy Owsiak in 1993 and rapidly became the largest annual charity fundraiser in Polish history. Each January, millions of volunteers flood the streets collecting donations, a tradition that survived even the 2019 assassination of Gdańsk mayor Paweł Adamowicz during a WOŚP finale event. This coin was issued in the organization's tenth anniversary year, when the foundation had already channeled hundreds of millions of złoty into pediatric medical equipment.
