Issued to mark the 150th anniversary of Chopin's death, this coin came out of a period when Polish commemorative silver had grown into a serious collector program — NBP had been building its thematic series through the 1990s with enough consistency that the Chopin piece landed in a well-established market. Chopin himself died in Paris on October 17, 1849, his heart later removed and smuggled back to Warsaw in a crystal jar by his sister Ludwika, where it remains sealed in a pillar of the Holy Cross Church.
