| 裏面の説明 | A right-facing portrait bust of Ernest Malinowski dominates the central field, rendered in a realistic style befitting a commemorative issue. Behind the effigy, a stylised composition depicts a locomotive, viaducts, and a mountain gorge, referencing Malinowski's engineering achievement of the Central Andean Railway. Against a background of stylised mountain peaks and bridges, the inscription 4818 m n.p.m. appears in the upper field, denoting the railway's maximum altitude above sea level. A semicircular legend along the lower arc reads 1818-1899 / ERNEST MALINOWSKI, giving the subject's birth and death years. |

Malinowski was a Polish engineer who, in the 1860s, oversaw construction of the Central Transandine Railway in Peru — at the time, the highest railway in the world. Working under brutal conditions at altitudes exceeding 4,800 meters, he completed a project that European and American engineers had repeatedly abandoned as impossible. The Polish government issued this coin to mark the centenary of his death in 1899, part of a broader series honoring Poles whose contributions played out largely outside their occupied homeland.
