10 Zlotys 100th Anniversary of the formation of the Polish Association of Volunteer Fire Brigades

The Związek Ochotniczych Straży Pożarnych — the Polish voluntary fire brigade association — was formally established in 1921, consolidating a network of local units that had operated independently across partitioned Poland for decades prior. Its founding was part of a broader postwar effort to organize civil infrastructure in a newly sovereign state that had spent over a century divided between three empires, each of which had left different administrative and legal frameworks in place.

This is the third NBP commemorative issue in the fire brigade series, following 2001 and 2011 centennial-adjacent releases.
