China's lunar silver series has been issued annually since 1981, making the Snake one of the later entries in what is now a multigenerational run. The 2013 issue marked the fourth Snake coin in the series — each twelve-year cycle producing a new design rather than repeating the old, a policy that distinguishes the Chinese program from many sovereign bullion series that freeze their designs indefinitely.
