China's lunar silver series had by 2005 settled into a reliable annual rhythm, but the rooster issue that year came from a mint system still navigating the transition away from the older .900 fine standard that had characterized earlier PRC commemoratives. The shift to .999 fine silver, fully established by this point, makes these pieces technically cleaner but removed one of the minor variables that gave earlier lunar issues their character.
