The horse is struck in high relief in polished silver, creating a dramatic contrast against the vivid concentric multicoloured enamel background that radiates outward in successive bands of blue, purple, red, orange, yellow and gold, filling the entire scalloped field. The cyclical Chinese sexagenary calendar inscription 丙午 (Bǐng Wǔ), identifying this as the Year of the Horse in the Bing Wu cycle, appears in the upper left field. The face value 10元 is inscribed in the lower field in coloured lettering. |
