China's annual lunar silver issues have been produced without interruption since 1981, but the 2024 Dragon year carries particular commercial weight — the Dragon is the most coveted of the twelve zodiac animals among Chinese buyers, consistently driving mintages and premiums above neighboring years in the series. The People's Bank of China does not publicly disclose official mintage figures for most of these issues, which complicates secondary market pricing and fuels speculation.
KM#2814 is struck to the same .999 fineness standard the series adopted in the early 2000s, replacing the earlier .900 composition.
