China's lunar silver series has been issued annually since 1981, but 2018 marked a meaningful production shift — the People's Bank contracted output across multiple mints, resulting in subtle die variations between specimens struck at the Shenyang and Shanghai facilities. The "arc" designation distinguishes this from the flat-relief issue released the same year, referring to the convex coin surface achieved through a specialized planchet pressing process that China's mints began refining in the mid-2010s.
Mintage was capped at 300,000 pieces across the arc format.
