Obverse description Within the copper-nickel centre, the large numeral '10' dominates the field against a finely lined background with ornamental floral scrollwork flanking either side. To the left of the numeral appears the pinyin inscription 'SHI YUAN' in two lines, while the Chinese character '元' is positioned to the right. The issuer's legend '中国人民银行' (People's Bank of China) arcs along the upper portion of the outer brass ring, with the date '2018' inscribed along the lower arc, all bordered by a ring of fine beading.

China's lunar series bimetallic 10 Yuan pieces have been issued annually since 1999, with the Dog cycle appearing in both 1994 and 2006 before this 2018 iteration. The People's Bank tightly controls distribution through authorized dealers and banks, but secondary market premiums on lunar issues routinely dwarf face value within weeks of release — the 2018 Dog was no exception.
