Additional information

The "Vault Protector" series drew on the folk tradition of menshen — door gods believed to ward off evil spirits — repurposed here as a collector-oriented bullion issue aimed squarely at the growing domestic and overseas Chinese gift market of the late 1990s. China Mint Company produced these in strictly limited quantities, and the 1998 issue is among the harder dates to locate in the series.
