| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central device depicts the Temple of Heaven (天坛), rendered in fine relief against a mirror-polished field, showing the iconic triple-eaved circular hall atop a tiered marble terrace with a central staircase and balustrade. The legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs around the upper periphery in Chinese characters within a raised border, while the date 1996 appears in the lower exergue. The design contrasts frosted architectural detail against the deeply reflective proof field, characteristic of Chinese Panda series coinage. |

China's platinum Panda series has always occupied an awkward commercial position — issued alongside the far more popular gold and silver versions, platinum struck fewer buyers despite the metal's industrial prestige. The 1996 one-tenth ounce issue was part of a short-lived run; the People's Bank of China eventually curtailed platinum Panda production as demand never matched expectations, making survivors genuinely scarce relative to their gold counterparts.
