China's Panda silver bullion series has run continuously since 1983, making it one of the longest-running annual bullion programs in the world — but the design changes every year without exception, a deliberate policy that drives collector demand and secondary market premiums far above melt value. The People's Bank of China controls mintage figures closely and does not always publish final numbers promptly.
The 30g/.999 standard was adopted in 2016, replacing the previous 1 troy ounce specification — a metrication shift that briefly disrupted the series' compatibility with Western bullion portfolios.
