China's Panda gold series has issued a 1-gram piece continuously since 2015, when the denomination was introduced to bring a fractional entry-level option into the program. The design changes annually by law — a statutory requirement enacted in 1982 that distinguishes the Panda series from nearly every other major bullion program in the world, and has made year-specific collecting the dominant mode for the series since its inception.
