Additional information

The 1998 Panda series coincided with a significant transition in the program: beginning that year, the People's Bank of China quietly shifted away from specifying the face value in troy ounces on the coin itself, a change that caused considerable confusion among dealers tracking the series. Mintage figures for the 1998 issue remain contested, as Chinese authorities never published official production numbers with the consistency Western mints apply to bullion programs.
