| 裏面の説明 | The reverse features a giant panda clinging to a tree branch, its characteristic black-and-white markings rendered with fine engraving detail in a naturalistic composition. The panda is depicted in a relaxed posture suspended from the branch, set against a finely textured background suggestive of bamboo forest habitat. The denomination 10元 appears in the lower field, accompanied by the purity designation .999 and the weight indicator 1/10oz AU, confirming the coin's gold content. |

The 1996 Panda gold issue falls within the period when the People's Bank of China was still changing the panda design annually — a policy that began in 1982 and was briefly abandoned in 2001 before being restored. Collectors and dealers in the mid-1990s were actively arbitraging these coins against fluctuating gold premiums in Hong Kong ahead of the 1997 handover, creating unusual secondary-market pressure on issues from exactly this window.
The 1996 issue is also one of the last before the mint mark system was clarified; pieces from this year exist struck at both Shenzhen and Shanghai, distinguishable only by a small mintmark that many early catalog listings failed to note separately.
