| Obverse description | Central field features a detailed relief of the Jiayuguan Fort (嘉峪关), the westernmost pass of the Great Wall of China, rendered in precise architectural detail with its multi-tiered pagoda-style watchtower rising above crenellated ramparts. The Chinese legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 10元 appears to the lower left and the date 1983 to the lower right of the central design. The place name 嘉峪关 is inscribed in the lower field beneath the fort. The mirror-like proof fields contrast sharply with the frosted relief elements. |
