The Kwangtung Provincial Bank had been issuing currency for decades by the time this note appeared in 1949, but the timing of this particular emission places it squarely in the final collapse of Nationalist control over Guangdong. The province fell to Communist forces in October of that year, rendering most late-issue Kwangtung Provincial Bank notes effectively worthless within months of printing.

Zhonghua Book Company — primarily a publisher and printer of textbooks — had taken on significant banknote work for various Chinese issuers during the Republican period. The Beijing facility printed this series, though Guangdong itself was over 2,000 kilometers to the south.
