| Obverse description | The national emblem of the People's Republic of China occupies the central field, depicting Tiananmen Gate surmounted by five stars — one large star flanked by four smaller stars in a semicircular arrangement — all encircled by a wreath of grain ears joined at the base by a cogwheel. The legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs around the upper periphery in Chinese characters, and the date 1990 appears in the exergue below the emblem. The design is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field. |
