China's Forbidden City silver series ran through the 1990s with rotating architectural views, each issue tied to the broader state push to develop a domestic commemorative coin market following the mint reforms of the late 1980s. The 1997 date places this piece in an exceptionally crowded year for Chinese commemoratives — the Hong Kong handover consumed enormous promotional bandwidth, and Forbidden City issues from that year attracted comparatively less collector attention at release, which suppressed original issue premiums.
KM#1094 is a one-year type with no known die varieties of significance.
