The Farmer's Bank of Chung-Chou was a provincial institution operating in Henan, one of several regional banks that continued issuing currency in the final chaotic years before the People's Republic absorbed or dissolved them. By 1948 the Nationalist monetary system was collapsing under hyperinflation — the Gold Yuan reform of that August would make most existing provincial notes obsolete almost immediately after issue.
This back proof survives because printers retained proof pulls for approval records. That archival origin is why back proofs from this period, rarely glamorous, often outlasted the notes actually put into circulation.
