The Central Reserve Bank of China was established in Nanjing in January 1941 as the primary financial instrument of the Wang Jingwei collaborationist government — but this note predates the bank's formal opening, which places it among the earliest issues produced in anticipation of the regime's launch. The institution was designed explicitly to displace the Nationalist fabi currency across Japanese-occupied central China, and notes were backed by little more than occupation authority.
Printed by the Japanese firm Toppan Printing Co., the series circulated across a zone where currency acceptance was enforced rather than voluntary. Counterfeiting pressure on Wang-era issues was substantial and documented.
