The Nenjiang Provincial Bank was one of several short-lived regional institutions established in Manchuria's northeastern provinces during the chaotic interregnum between Japanese surrender in August 1945 and full Communist consolidation of the region. Nenjiang Province itself was a brief administrative creation — it existed as a distinct entity for only a few years before being merged into larger provincial structures during the early People's Republic reorganizations of the early 1950s.
The catalog name "Bank of Inner Chiang" is a romanization artifact; the issuing authority is unambiguously the Nenjiang Provincial Bank. Notes from this series circulated in a region where multiple currencies competed simultaneously, including leftover Manchukuo notes and early Communist military scrip.
