Additional information

The "Auspicious Matters" series was issued by the People's Bank of China during the lead-up to Hong Kong's handover — a period when the mint was producing commemorative silver at an unusually high volume, much of it aimed squarely at overseas Chinese collectors and the growing domestic gift market. KM#1059 is one of several thematically related issues from that year, making individual pieces easy to conflate in trade.

Struck at the Shanghai Mint to .999 fineness — finer than the .900 standard common to earlier PRC commemoratives.
