Additional information

Part of the long-running Chinese lunar and cultural series, the Auspicious Culture issues were introduced to target the domestic gift and collector market rather than serve any circulation function — none were ever intended for commerce. The 2016 issue falls within a period when the People's Bank was aggressively expanding its commemorative program, sometimes releasing dozens of distinct collector coins in a single calendar year.

Mintage figures for this type were not publicly disclosed at issue, which is consistent with PBC practice for this subseries.
