Obverse description Central field features a stylized ho-oo (phoenix) bird in relief, depicted with spread wings and detailed feather work, facing left. The legend 日本國 (State of Japan) is inscribed along the upper arc, while 昭和 (Shōwa) appears along the lower arc with the year designation incomplete, flanked by decorative foliate or paulownia ornaments at either side. The overall design is rendered in a bold, deeply struck style consistent with prototype workmanship of the Shōwa era.
