(Translation: In the year 5 of Shōwa [1930], before the militarists [Gumbatsu] started the war in China, you could buy the following goods for 10 yen:
- Two To and five Shō [about 45 liters] of good rice
- or fabric for eight summer kimonos
- or four Hyō [quantity per sack varied regionally] of charcoal.

In the year 12 of Shōwa [1937], after the start of the China Incident, 10 yen could buy the following goods:
- Two To and five Shō rice of inferior quality
- or fabric for five summer kimonos
- or two Hyō of charcoal.

Today, after three years of fighting a hopeless war with the world's greatest power, 10 yen can buy the following:
- One Shō and two Gō [about 2.165 liters] of good quality rice on the black market
- a small amount of charcoal (if you can get it)
- Cotton cloth: nothing.

These are the results of the common sphere of prosperity that your leaders talk about!)

Not legal tender — never intended to be. This is one of several counterfeit-style propaganda leaflets produced by Allied psychological operations units during the Pacific War, designed to mimic authentic Japanese currency closely enough to cause confusion, undermine confidence in the yen, and disrupt military supply chains. The Japanese military explicitly warned troops against picking up paper dropped from aircraft, which tells you something about how seriously the threat was taken.

The X# prefix in the World Paper Money catalog places it in the notgeld and propaganda issues section. Attribution to a specific printing contractor or OSS sub-unit remains unconfirmed.
