The Bank of Chosen was established in 1909, two years before this note's issue date, replacing the Dai-Ichi Bank which had been operating a de facto colonial currency in Korea since 1902. The name change followed Japan's formal annexation of Korea in 1910 — this note belongs to the first series issued under the new institutional identity.
Pick 19 was printed by the Japanese government printing bureau. Chosen Bank notes of this period circulated alongside Japanese yen at par by design, the currency union being an explicit instrument of economic integration into the Japanese empire.
