North Korea issued a dedicated commemorative series in 2000 marking the 55th anniversary of the Korean Workers' Party, founded on October 10, 1945. These notes were not released into general circulation — they were produced as presentation items and distributed through official Party channels, which is why uncirculated survivors are actually common despite the country's general opacity around currency matters.
The series is catalogued distinctly from the DPRK's regular emission of the same period. Collectors occasionally conflate the two, but the commemorative notes carry specific overprint text referencing the Party anniversary — the key differentiator from the standard 2002 People's series notes of matching denomination.
