Obverse description The central device features the State Emblem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea — a stylised hydroelectric dam framed by sheaves of rice and a five-pointed red star above a mountain peak — rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. To the left of the emblem the denomination legend and weight indicator '1 OZ' appear, while '.999' purity is inscribed to the right. Decorative floral sprigs flank the lower field. The circular legend in Hangul reading '조선민주주의인민공화국' (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) runs along the upper rim, with '10원' (10 Won) at the right. Below the emblem, the Juche year '주체 87' and the Gregorian year '1998' are inscribed.
