Obverse description The state emblem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea occupies the central field, depicting Paektu Mountain beneath a five-pointed star with radiating rays, framed by sheaves of rice tied with a ribbon bearing the inscription of the state name, and a hydroelectric dam in the lower portion. The circular legend in Korean script reads 조선민주주의인민공화국 along the upper rim. In the lower field, flanked by small olive branches, the Juche year 주체86 and the Gregorian year (1997) are inscribed, with 1 OZ to the lower left and 999 to the lower right, denoting the coin's silver fineness and weight.
