Reverse description The reverse features a central inset of tiger's-eye stone, within which a detailed depiction of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin is rendered in relief, evoking the iconic symbol of German reunification. At the centre of the inset, the design of a 1 Deutsche Mark coin is superimposed, inscribed 'DEUTSCHE MARK', commemorating the final issue of that currency. The Latin legend 'FINAL ISSUE OF THE GERMAN MARK' arcs boldly around the upper periphery of the silver border, with the year '2002' inscribed at the base, flanked by two five-pointed stars.
