Vanuatu's coinage has been issued by the Reserve Bank since independence in 1980, replacing the condominium-era francs and pounds that circulated under the joint Anglo-French administration — one of the stranger monetary arrangements in colonial history, where two European powers ran parallel currencies in the same territory simultaneously.
